In 2017 Robert Gessink showed his strength on the 8th Stage of the Tour De France towards Station Des Rousses as he almost took victory and set himself up for what most felt would be his standout GC race. Unfortunately, a crash on stage 9 ended his race and season and Robert has to undergo extensive rehabilitation to a damaged Spinal fracture.
Since getting the all clear, Gesink has pushed hard in training and feels he has reached his “best December level ever”. In combination with the strong advice and support of the team and dedication applied by himself, he is now looking forward to the season ahead.
"I’m looking forward to riding the Giro d’Italia and the Tour de France. The goal remains the same as last year’s: a stage win. My ambition is to have won a stage in all three grand tours. The Vuelta I have already crossed off, so I’m particularly aiming for a stage win in the Giro and the Tour.”
